Haiti Disaster Response through the
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
By Daniel
Vestal, CBF Executive Coordinator
Somehow
the urgency of responding to a natural
disaster forces us to recognize the absolute
necessity of cooperation and collaboration.
Earlier today I participated in a virtual
meeting convened by CBF of several ministry
partners from across the country. It was
amazing to hear the connections,
initiatives, efforts and ministries coming
from so many directions. The efforts are
robust and the desire to help is palpable.
Thanks be to God.

Vestal's message to the
Fellowship about the crisis in Haiti and how
CBF will respond.
Let me offer some practical steps that all
of us can take to respond to the Haiti
disaster:
First, you can pray.
Let us pray for the
suffering people of Haiti, asking God to
give them grace and strength. Let us pray
for divine wisdom and courage for ourselves
as we seek to help.
Prayer requests will be updated
regularly.
Second, you can give.
Your gift will be directed
toward earthquake response and recovery
efforts.
Give online or send your check to
CBF, PO Box 101699, Atlanta, GA 30392
indicating "Haiti Response Fund 17015."
Third, you can get involved.
Currently CBF field personnel and partners
are en route to Haiti, and some are already
on the ground. Their purpose is to seek out
both tangible points of connection and
stable platforms for ministry.
Resources will be needed both in the short
term and long term. As CBF field personnel
and partners are listening on the field for
needs and resources, CBF churches and
individuals will be called on to share their
resources, skill sets and specialized
training.
We need to hear from you so that when
specific projects are identified, we will be
able to quickly match the need with the
resource.
Please take a few moments and let us know
your skills and experience.
Please be specific with your skill sets,
training and length of service availability.
We anticipate deploying the first teams as
early as next week.
Once we know what is needed and have
established a base of operations, we will be
ready for churches and individuals to
respond.
Fourth, you can stay connected.
Read the
latest news release from the
Fellowship about disaster response efforts.
Stay informed about the Fellowship's
ongoing response through
updates on the CBF blog. You can
also connect through CBF's
Haiti ministry network's Ning site.
