Children's Ministry Overview
Below you will find an overview
of the
programs available for your child.
"Whoever welcomes one of these
little children in my name welcomes me."
Mark 9:37
We
welcome children at Hunton Baptist Church! Here is an overview of some of
the exciting opportunities that we offer to nurture a child's spiritual growth.
GLOBAL ADVENTURES: Designed to spark your child's interest in missions and teach them about Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) missionaries through tasting, touching, sight, music and participation. Children will learn about CBF missionaries through hearing about their personal stories and adventures. Also, children will participate in activities that allow them to experience various cultures from around the globe. The program will be held on Sunday nights (starting
after labor day) for Preschool (3 & 4 year old classes) & Grades K-5. This program is being combined with our children’s and preschool choirs. Children will rotate from site to site, providing two hours of fun-filled learning and activities. Drop your children off at the room beside the old kitchen for a FREE “kid-friendly” meal at 5:00 p.m., and pick them up at 7:00 p.m.
CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL: We have a great Sunday School department for K-5! We recently renovated that
children's facilities to better serve you. Children will learn direct from the Bible, with exciting crafts and activities to make the lesson memorable. We
provide rising kindergarteners with a children’s NIV Bibles, the same version that we
have in our pews. By universalizing our chosen Bible version, scripture memorization will be easier for the children. To encourage Bible time at home, each week your child will bring home a “Take Home” paper to be completed together with their parents. Children are encouraged to bring back their “Take Home” papers the next week with a parent’s signature, and to bring their Bibles with them each Sunday.
PRESCHOOL DEPARTMENT: We have taken a lesson from preschools and daycare centers and divided our learning space from our play area. We have centralized our toys in a separate playroom designed with safety in mind. This frees up extra storage space for craft supplies in the learning centers. Children learn social skills and valuable life lessons through play. We recognize appropriate playtime is essential for the overall learning experience of our preschoolers. On Sunday mornings, preschoolers will alternate between the playroom during our worship hours and the learning centers during Sunday School. Please bring your child to our preschool department during both worship and Sunday School, so that they can have the full experience. And don’t forget to bring your preschooler back at 5:00 p.m. for a “kid-friendly” dinner and “GLOBAL ADVENTURES!”
CHILDREN’S CHURCH: Children's church is offered during the 8:45 and 11:00 worship services.
Children are dismissed from worship at an appropriate time so that they
experience elements of both group worship and a catered educational experience.
PRESCHOOL & CHILDREN’S CHOIRS: Both of these choirs are incorporated into our Global Adventures program on Sunday Nights.
Food, Music, and Missions - enjoy the entire package through Global Adventures.
PROMOTION SUNDAY: The first Sunday after Labor Day in September is promotion Sunday.
Preschoolers and Children are promoted in Sunday School classes following the policy used by the local school systems, using September 30th as the birthday cut-off point. This puts the children together with the same
peer group that they experience in school. We begin implementing this policy with our toddlers so that peers are appropriately grouped from the beginning.
Playground
Equipment: We have a great playground! On certain occasions, we are incorporating
playground time into some of our existing programs. The playground is open
until dusk to children ages 2-12. Adult supervision is recommended.
THANK YOU . . . to all the many volunteers who make these great programs possible. If you are not already involved and have special gifts with children, please let me know. The more volunteer help that we have, the more we can improve and expand our children’s ministries. Also, please tell others about our great programs. Invite your neighbors, friends, and family to become a part of what’s happening!
Blessings to All,
Rev. Phillip Barton
