We have Classes for all ages...
Hunton Baptist Church has a Sunday school class for everyone! Children enjoy our vibrant and fun-filled classes as they learn about God's love. Youth experience new discoveries in faith for their every-day world. Young Adults & Adult Co-ed classes focus on Bible study and how Jesus' teachings relate to us today. Adult men's and women's classes also focus on the study of God's word and the application of it to our lives.

Children and Youth Sunday School

Nursery is available during the Sunday School hour, as well as during the worship services and other special services.  

For our youngest children, Hunton offer Sunday School classes for:

Young Adults – Room 207

Teacher: Barbara & Lavan Dauberman

Typical Age Range: 18-25
Sunday School Literature: Working through the Bible & Other Studies

This collage-age crowd enjoys talking about just about everything. They are a fun-filled group who encourages each other to “walk the talk.” Class time usually consists of open discussion of the scripture with out a formal lecture style. Sometimes the class gets together for brunch on a weekend, parties during the holidays, and sometimes they participate in service projects

COED 1 - Room B  

Teacher: Tim Gorman

Typical Age Range: Mid 20s to 40 
Sunday School Literature:
Smyth & Helwys

This coed class focuses on building an understanding of the Bible to learn more about God’s will. Open dialogue is highly encouraged. They discuss how the Bible is an integral source for how to live their lives in a way that hopefully pleases Jesus. They get together on occasion as a class for outside functions, gatherings, etc.

COED II – Room D

Teacher: Wayne Kennedy, Cliff Houston, 
Gary Hess, and others...

Typical Age Range: Mid 20s to 50s 
Sunday School Literature: Master Works 

This coed class is taught by rotating teachers and classmates where open discussion is encouraged. They talk about family and current issues as it relates to the lesson. Most attend this class as couples, but also includes single and divorced members. This fun-loving group occasionally meets for cookouts and other get-togethers.

COED III – Room 205 

Teacher: Mickey Jones & Ken Wright

Typical Age Range: 30 & up 
Sunday School Literature: Smyth & Helwys 

This class is a mix of men and women who are spirit-driven and Christ-led. They are a diverse group of adults from a variety of backgrounds. They are family-oriented with a focus on their children and grandchildren. They enjoy study of the Bible and fellowship with one another, both within and outside of class.

Women 1A – Room 206 

Teacher: Pat Hemsworth

Typical Age Range: 37-55 
Sunday School Literature: The Bible and devotional books. 

The members of this class are married women, who often attend church alone, and are dedicated to the their quest for a greater knowledge of the Bible. This class has a tight bond of sisterhood, friendship, and love centered around Christ. The class has regular class meetings; they also get together for lunches, plays, and other activities.

Women 1B - Room 208

Teacher: Linda Thorp

Typical Age Range: 21-55 
Sunday School Literature: Smyth & Helwys 

This class is mostly married ladies with a few singles. Most of the ladies in this class share three things in common: they have children, they work, and they have plenty of stress in their life. This class has become a safe place for these women to share their burdens with one another. Class time is typically laid back with open discussion.  Classmates are encouraged to share their thoughts and concerns.  Members of this class say its a “wonderful” class to attend. 

Ladies II – Room C

Teacher: Kay Atwell & Phyllis Broaddus

Typical Age Range: 45-65 
Sunday School Literature: Smyth & Helwys 

The Dorcas class is a supportive group that shares a love of God.  This class is comprised of a wide variety of personalities, and includes married, widowed and divorced women. They laugh together, they listen to one another, and they even cry together. This class has an emphasis on participating in service through church dinners and special mission projects, and they enjoy the blessings that come from a life of good deeds and works.

Women’s III – Room 105  

Teacher: Kistie Patch

Typical Age Range: 50 and up  
Sunday School Literature:
Smyth & Helwys

The Naomi class can be described as friendly and outgoing. The women of this class share a love for their church and community. Most are married and some are widowed. Once a month, they get together for a class meeting. These ladies are also very involved in the Samantha Project – a mission at our church that provides comforting dolls for the children at MCV hospital who suffer from life-threatening illness.

Ladies IV – Room 109 

Teacher: Margaret Patterson

Typical Age Range: 73-80+ 
Sunday School Literature
: Lifeway

The Elizabeth Axselle class describe themselves as “a diversified group of Christian ladies, who love each other and enjoy studying together.” This supportive group is made up of senior ladies who are retired and most are widows. They uplift each other on Sunday mornings through their open discussion and study of the lesson.  Occasionally the class meets for lunch or breakfast.

Ladies V – Room 104 

Teacher: Alice Rishel

Typical Age Range: “Next to Glory” 
Sunday School Literature: Smyth & Helwys 

The Friendship class is mostly widows who are fun-loving and enjoy a close fellowship. Having a sense of humor is a prerequisite for attending this class. The lesson is taught through lecture and discussion. Occasionally, they meet for fellowship outside the class setting. This class welcomes more senior women to join their fellowship.

Men’s I – Room 204 

Teacher: Mike Parsley

Typical Age Range: 32-63 
Sunday School Literature: Smyth & Helwys (Large Print) & 
“Everyday Guide to Prayer” 

The members of this class of mostly married men describe themselves as fun-loving, compassionate, and respectful of both each other and God’s Word. Their class time is a combination of lecture and open discussion. Participation is not only encouraged, this class strives to make the opportunity for every member to play an active role in the class. This class often meets for breakfast on Saturday mornings. They also volunteer to help the church in various activities, as well as assist people in the community.

Men’s II – Room 202

Teacher: Raymond Martin

Typical Age Range: 52 & Up  
Sunday School Literature: Smyth & Helwys 

This class of independent thinkers describe themselves as “mavericks.” The level of class participation varies from Sunday to Sunday. This diverse group of men also gets together beyond Sunday morning class from time to time.

Men’s III – Room E 

Teacher: Donald Maxwell

Typical Age Range: 52 & Up  
Sunday School Literature: Smyth & Helwys 

This class is made up of both retirees and some who still work. The class enjoys opportunities to be together and to share in the study of God’s Word. They primarily aim to put into action things they learn from scripture. The men extend a warm welcome to all who like sharing god’s love to join their class.

Men’s IV – Room 102  Teacher: George York
Typical Age range: Middle age & up 
Sunday School Literature: Lifeway 

The members of this class are mostly retired and are either married or widowed. The class enjoys having breakfast together at local eateries and at the church from time to time. Open discussion and class participation is encouraged during the lesson time. This class enjoys a strong fellowship and bond among its members. They describe themselves as loving Christian gentlemen, who enjoy the study of God’s Word.
